Some holiday visitors are decidedly
unwelcome inNorthville.
Northville Township Police have warned
area residents of a pair of suspects who have
visited at least one area home in an attempt
to steal cash, valuables and jewelry.
The pair usually targets older residents in
established neighborhoods, police said. A
woman comes to the door and attempts to
engagewhoever answers into a detailed con-
versation, sometimes going as far as to dis-
cuss physical conditions. In one instance, the
woman reportedly lifted her shirt to showoff
a scar onher stomach.
While the resident is distracted by the
woman, her male accomplice sneaks into
the home to search for valuables to steal,
usually targeting the bedroom for jewelry,
police said. The attempt reported recently to
Northville police failed, but the scam is one
that has been used for years, particularly
against elderly residents, a spokesperson
said. Avariation is thewoman telling the res-
ident that she is thinking of moving to their
neighborhood and asking numerous ques-
tions about the area and directions to vari-
ous facilities.
The female suspect is described as being
about 30 to 40 years old, approximately 5-
feet, 3-inches tall with collar-length hair. She
was described as heavywitha round face.
The man was described as being about 6-
feet tall with a thin build and short dark hair,
by witnesses. The pair was in a white Ford
vehicle similar to anExplorer orEdge.
Police have urged residents to keep all
doors to their homes locked, even when they
are at home, andnot allowstrangers to enter.
Northville Township Police said they
encourage residents who may be suspicious
of visitors to call 911, particularly if the cir-
cumstances fit the situationdescribed.
