Voices of Thunder will
aid local children’s charity
‘American Idol’ to
perform in Westland
The Mighty Voices of Thunder
will appear in concert at 4 p.m.
Sept. 30 at St. Clements Episcopal
Church in Inkster.
The concert is a benefit for the
Adopt-A-Child-Size Committee of
Inkster, a group that has worked for
26 years to raise funds for new win-
ter clothing and school uniforms for
Inkster children. It was initiated
originally by Jean Maura who led
the committee for 11 years.
“The number of children in need
in the Inkster community continues
to increase. Therefore, we are all
challenged to provide assistance to
them. Your support will enable us to
continue themuch-needed service,”
said Martha Lynem, the committee
chairperson for the event.
Lynem said that there will be a
free-will offering at the concert but
there is no admission fee.
“We work to help Inkster chil-
dren. Every year we are able to help
at least 150 children with complete
winter clothing, coats, hats, gloves,
an extra fleece top and sometimes
we obtain vouchers for boots for
themtoo.” Lynemsaid.
The Mighty Voices of Thunder is
a male choir based at Greater New
Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist
Church inDetroit. The group is well
known and at one time included
more than 100 members. Lynem
said she thought the traveling choir
now included about 45 or 50 mem-
bers.
Adopt-A-child-Size and Support
Service is a non-profit human serv-
ice agency serving portions of
Wayne andWashtenawcounties, but
this event is designed specifically to
help the children of Inkster.
The concert has taken place in
past years at the Smith Chapel but
will move to St. Clements at 4300
Harrison in Inkster this year.
