Fall Festival tickets on sale

Tickets for the Civitans Taste Fest, the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, the Rotary A.M. Spaghetti Dinner and the Rotary Chicken Barbeque are now available at multiple locations throughout Plymouth.

Signs in area businesses are promoting the sale of tickets for the events which are all charity fundraisers during the Fall Festival set for Sept. 6, 7 and 8. For more information, visit Plymouthfallfestival.com.

Firefighters want to 'Fill the Boot'

The annual Plymouth Township Fire Department Fill-the-Boot Campaign will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 7 and 8 in front of the Kroger store at Ann Arbor and Sheldon roads. Township firefighters will be greeting customers and collecting funds to help local families affected by Muscular Dystrophy

Since 1954, fire fighters have fueled the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) mission to find treatments and cures for life threatening muscle diseases. This year's Plymouth Township Fill-the-Boot Campaign will show the dedication of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and Plymouth Township Local 1496 toward supporting the families and defeating the disease.



Genealogists host researcher

Katherine Willson, a professional genealogist, has some answers for those who regularly get online and hope to find something new about their ancestors and for those who wish they could just get a notification letting them know if any new information has been added to the web.

Google Alerts is the solution, Willson claims. She will speak to members of the Northville Genealogical Society on the topic of “Google Alerts” following a short business meeting set for 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Northville District Library.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, free of charge.

The Northville District Library is located at 212 West Cady St. in Northville. The roundtable discussion, “Organizing Your Data,” will begin at 1:15 p.m. followed by a short business meeting at 2:30 p.m., open to the public.



Belleville Library Storytimes begin

Fall Storytime sessions at the Belleville Area District Library will begin with Family Storytimes, at 7 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 9 -Oct. 14 for ages 4-10; Tuesday Toddler Times for those ages 2-4 at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 through Oct. 15 and Thursday Toddler Times, at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 - Oct. 17 for ages 2-4.

Community Chorus seeking singers

The Belleville Community Chorus, under the direction of Rachael Parr, is seeking new members for the upcoming season.

Rehearsals take place at 7 p.m. every Monday, beginning Sept. 9 at the First United Methodist Church at 417 Charles St. in Belleville. A fall concert is set for December. 

Anyone interested in joining the singers, need only attend the first rehearsal. Parr said the group is “especially hoping to increase our men's sections.”

Blues at the Elks set

Nicky T. and The Snake Charmers will perform at the Plymouth Ann Arbor Elks Lodge 325 from 7 until 10 p.m. Sept. 10.

The blues band includes former members of The Alligators band.

Garden Club to meet

Country Garden Club of Northville members will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Ward Church, 40000 Six Mile Road in Northville.

There will be social time with snacks and speaker Tim Nowicki will discuss Birds of Michigan. There will also be a business meeting.

Photographers to meet 

Members of the only 3D photography in Michigan have set their first meeting of the season for 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Livonia Civic Park Senior Center, 15218 Farmington Road, just south of Five Mile Road.

The program will be “Choosing and Preparing Stereo Images for Competition” by club president Rick Shomsky. After a refreshment break, there will be a competition. 

The meetings are free to attend and visitors are always welcome. 

Stereo cameras, 3D movies, and educational videos are available for members to borrow or rent.

Sears homes is topic

The Wayne Historical Society will host guest speakers Andrew and Wendy Mutch who will discuss the history of Sears Kit houses in Michigan at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.

The meeting will take place at the Historical Museum, 1 Town Square, at the corner of Main and Biddle, in downtown Wayne.

The meeting is free and open to the public. 



Chicken dinner is server

The Willow United Methodist Church will serve a Chicken Supper beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11. Carryout meals are available at 4:30 p.m. at the church, 36925 Willow Road in New Boston.

Meals cost $12 per person and include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuits and gravy, cole slaw, dessert, coffee, tea or milk.

Children's meals for those younger than 12 are available for $5.

Library to host book sale

Friends of the William P. Faust Public Library of Westland will host a book sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14 and from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Sunday is also bag day when a bag of books can be purchased for $4.

Veteran Health Summit set

The Canton Community Foundation and Legal Help for Veterans will present the 10th Annual Veteran Health Summit 2019 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Schoolcraft College VisTaTech Center. 

Topics at the free event include maximizing veteran's health care; veteran's disability update, health care in the community, Ann Arbor VA Medical Center update and an update from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

The is no cost to attend for all military veterans, friends, family and caregivers.

Registration is requested, however, as there will be a boxed lunch provided at the close of the day.

Suicide prevention walk set

The Northville High School 5K Color Run/Walk to prevent teen suicide is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the school on Six Mile Road. 

Secure registration online is available until Sept. 15 at https://colormyworld.redpodium.com/color-my-world-color-run-2019. 

This year, the Run/Walk proceeds will expand the mental health library, expand school prevention training, and host peer-to-peer outreach activities. Color My World is a club founded at Northville High School in 2017.

This is the second annual color run coinciding with National Suicide Prevention Month taking place at Northville High. 



Coffee With A Cop served

Members of the Inkster Police Department will host Coffee With A Cop at 10 a.m. Sept. 18 at Applewood Coney Island, 28640 Michigan Ave. 

There is no agenda or speeches, just a chance to enjoy a cup of coffee, ask questions voice concerns and get to know the officers in the neighborhood.



Mom 2 Mom Sale set

St Edith and St. Collette Church will be the site of a Mom2Mom Sale from 8:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Annual Cemetery Walk set

The Wayne Historical Society will sponsor the Annual Cemetery Walk from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 6 at Glenwood Cemetery and will highlight several Wayne families and figures.

This is an outdoor walking tour so appropriate dress is suggested.

Donations will be accepted.



Gone With the Wind discussed

Guest speaker Kathleen Marcaccio will discuss Margaret Mitchell and Gone With The Wind at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Wayne Public Library.

She will discuss both the movie and the book and add some background to the Civil War classic story.

Goodfellows serving pancakes

The Inkster Goodfellows No Child Without A Christmas effort will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday Oct. 19.

The annual event is a fundraiser for the Christmas campaign of the group which provides holiday gifts to the less fortunate in the community. 

The breakfast will take place at the Booker Dozier Recreation Center, 2025 Middlebelt Road in Inkster.

The donation is $10 at the door and is tax-deductible.

Museum host Ghost Hunt

Great Lakes Ghost Hunters will search for paranormal activity in the 140-year-old Wayne Historical Museum building from 8-11:45 p.m. Oct. 26. 

Tickets to join the ghost hunt for an hour are priced at $25 and are available online or t the door.
