The search for a new city man-
ager inWaynewill continue.
Following interviews of two
potential candidates for the job
during the weekend, members of
the city council opted to continue
the search and asked acting City
Manager Ramzi El-Gharib to con-
tinue in the position for another
threemonths.
El-Gharib agreed to continue
but said that as an engineer, budg-
eting was not his strong suit and
that the upcoming city budget
would be out of his area of expert-
ise. Council members agreed to
search for more accounting and
budgeting help in the preparation
of the budget which currently
shows a $2milliondeficit.
“I know the caliber of candi-
dates applying was disappoint-
ing,” said William Costick, a
retired city manager working as a
consultant with the city on the
search. “It's not Wayne,” he told
the council members. “A lot of
managers are looking to leave
Michigan for a place without the
financial issues here.”
About 24 applications were
received and a committee of coun-
cil members winnowed those can-
didates to eight and then three for
public interviews. One of those
failed to appear at the scheduled
interview last Saturday due to the
inclement weather. Of the two
interviewed, neither had experi-
ence as a citymanager.
One of the candidates inter-
viewed was a former West
Bloomfield Township supervisor,
an elected position. The other can-
didate was a former administrator
for SaginawandCass counties.
Students from St. John's School
inWestland went on a very special
holiday field trip twoweeks ago.
The students helped deliver 125
boxes of food they had packaged
for homeless veterans along with
125 men's and 15 women's inpa-
tient boxes to the Veteran's
Administration Ann Arbor
Healthcare System. The students
were helped in their efforts again
this year by volunteers from Elite
Realty, which annually partici-
pates in a program to help home-
less and inpatient veterans during
the holiday season. While deliver-
ing these presents to the Veterans
Hospital, students and volunteers
sing carols and visit with patients,
expressing gratitude for all the vet-
erans have done for their country.
St. John's Veteran's Project was
started in 2006 to show support for
active duty soldiers overseas and
homeless and inpatient veterans
at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare
System. Trisha Dork, the owner of
Elite Realty and a member of the
project committee helps to plan
and execute the packaging and
delivery each year.
“I love having a company that is
big enough to serve many clients
but small enough to really care
and show it. When I tell people
about the St. Johns Veteran's
Project they want to get involved.
This project is very near and dear
to my heart and I love that I get to
share it withmy colleagues, clients
andmy family and help and watch
it grow bigger every year,” Dork
said.
Elite Realty has helped St.
John's Veterans Project assist
almost 2,500 veterans since the
project started in 2006. As the
impact of the project grows, so
does the support of Elite Realty.
This year alone, in addition to
being a drop-off location for dona-
tions, Elite Realty staff members
volunteered their time and energy
in addition to a $2,000 monetary
donation.
“This project is important to not
only our company but to each and
every one of us personally. We
even bring our families to help. My
son, Trent, has been packing boxes
since he was in kindergarten and
looks forward to visiting the veter-
ans every year,” said Andy
Boryszczuk, president of sales at
EliteRealty.

project is available at (734) 721-

Westland Parks and Recreation Advisory
Council by Mayor William Wild and
approved by the Westland City Council at
a regularmeeting lastmonth.

two teenage Wayne-Westland school stu-
dents, Edwards has served in the U.S.
