Greene saidhe didn't even knowwhat the
charges were or what he was accused of
until his arraignment in July. He had been
accused of using a computer to commit a
crime, unauthorized access of a computer,
obstruction of justice/misconduct of office
and obstruction of justice. Hathaway found
all the charges unsustainable and threw out
the accusation of unauthorized access of a
computer inNovember.
“She said it was my computer, how could
I not be authorized to use it,” Greene said.
“She also said that if she looked at her com-
puter and saw an unfamiliar document, as I
did, she would look at it too, to determine
what it was.”
“I just want to get on with my life,” he
said. “This has been 10months of hell.”

He and some friends were standing in
line at breakfast when they heard the first
bomb go off. One man commented that the
navy must have returned to port, because
they would be the only ones that would do
battle on aSunday,Weiser said.
The next bomb shook the mess hall and
sent dishes crashing to the floor, and pro-
voked the ire of a cursing sergeant.
Weiser said he thought he went outside to
see just was going on. He heard the whine of
an aircraft, and looked up to see a sight that
is ingrained in his memory to this day: A
Japanese 'Zero,' on a bombing run.
“I could see the guy's glasses, and the
sweat on his forehead,” Weiser said. “I can
see him today, how he looked. Then he
dropped the bomb, and knocked everyone
down.”
Later, after many on the base found
refuge in a nearby residential sector, Weiser
was given the only surviving radio - the only
link between the base and headquarters
with the instructions to guard it with his life.
He said he spent a long night in a foxhole,
watchingwhat looked like a lightshowon the
horizon.
“That night was really bad,” he said. “It
was like fireworks; you could see it from our
base.”
After that tour was over, Weiser re-enlist-
ed, and was assigned to the 365th Fighter
Group, which became known as the Hell
Hawks. As head of the communications sec-
tion, Weiser saidhewas on the tail end of the
invasion at Normandy, and made quick
progress along that campaign. They moved
their base 13 times in sixmonths, he said.
After returning to the states, he opened a
scrap iron and steel business in Wayne, and
retired in 1990.
“I've had a pretty good life,” he said. “I'm
very lucky.”
Weiser was presented with proclamations
honoring his service fromState. Rep. George
T. Darany on behalf of Gov. Rick Snyder,
from Kevin Kelley representing Wayne
County and Dearborn Mayor John B.
O'Reilly, representing U.S. Congressman
JohnDingell and theCity of Dearborn.
Wayne Mayor Al Haidous presented
Weiser with a plaque before VFW Past
Commander JosephTebor spoke.
The Wayne Memorial High School
Reserve Officer Color Guard under the
direction of First Sgt. Steven LaHaine also
honoredWeiser who expressed his gratitude
for the ceremony.
Editor's note: This interview with Nate
Weiser was originally published in 1995 and
waswritten by former editor Scott Spielman.

The holiday decorations at Friendship
Church in Canton will bring the sights and
sound of Christmas to life this year.
The church grounds will be decorated for
the season with live volunteers and animals
in depictions of the original Christmas story
as portrayed in theBible.
The biblical characters are all volunteers
from the church and the animals are on loan
for the presentation from Real Life Day
Camp andFarminCanton.
Lead Pastor Mike Norton said the display
is open to the public.
“The public can take a walk back in time
and experience the wonder of the first
Christmas night. By showing real settings,
real people and real animals, we hope to
convey the real meaning of Christmas in an
uplifting way to everyone who visits, both
children and adults alike,” he said.
Costumed characters are planned in sev-
eral settings this year, each one portraying a
different event that leads up to the birth of
Christ. The stroll back in time is a 10-minute
walking tour on thewooded trails behind the
church.
Laura May, a Canton resident, noted, “It's
a really fun community event. I think it really
helps people appreciate the simplicity of the
original Christmas story, and it's (Living
Nativity) becoming sort of a tradition for lots
of families.”
Admission to the 'Living Nativity' is free
and open to everyone from 4:30 until 8 p.m.
this Sunday, Dec. 18.
Friendship Church Canton is located at
1240 N. Beck Road in Canton. It is a local
