Salem High School Football team members
have a little more on their minds than game strate-
gies, these days.
The team is solidly behind teammate Colin
Savage and his mother, Joanne Savage, who has
been diagnosed with a rare cancer, Peritonei
Carcinoma.
Colin Savage lost his father, Pat, to esophageal
cancer last November, making his mother's diagno-
sis evenmore devastating for himand his brothers,
Jack andNolan.
The teamhas rallied to support the family, along
with many other friends and Canton businesses,
hoping to help defray some of the medical costs
Joanne Savage faces during her current and exten-
sivemedical treatments to combat the disease.
One of her supporters is RealBarBQ of Canton
where a benefit fundraiser will take place from 11
a.m. until closing on Saturday, Dec. 8. Fifty percent
of all proceeds from sales, including carry-outs,
deliveries and in-restaurant dining that day will go
to the Savage family.
RealBarBQ is located at 42452 Ford Road at
LilleyRoad.
A fund at the Community Financial Credit
Union has also been set up for contributions which

struggling to make ends meet,
especially during this time of
year,” said Jon LaFever, Canton
Leisure Services recreation
supervisor. “Without the support
of so many and the tireless energy
of all of our volunteers, hundreds
of community members would
experience much less happiness
during this holiday season.”

unwrapped toys will be collected
through Dec. 10 at several Canton
Leisure Services locations includ-
ing: the Summit on the Park, locat-
ed at 46000 Summit Parkway; The
