Home Tour help fund the Senior
Holiday Baskets program which
provides gift baskets to senior citi-
zens in assisted living facilities as
well as the foundation scholarship
programfor high school seniors.
Tickets for the 2013 Holiday
Home Tour are $20 in advance and
$25 at the door. Tickets are limited
and the event does sell out each
year. To purchase tickets, visit
Gardenviews or the Chamber of
Commerce. Both are on Main
Street in downtown Northville. To
pay by credit card, call the
Northville Community Foundation
at (248) 374-0200. Tickets can be
purchased the day of the tour at
Ward Church at 40000 Six Mile
Road, 1/4 mile west of Haggerty
Road. Ticketsmay be purchased at
the church from 9 a.m. until 2:30
p.m. Nov. 15 and 16.
Library celebrates birthday
The Wayne Public Library will
mark the 90th birthday of the com-
munity service with a birthday
cake reception and book talk at 1
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.
The speaker will be Natalie
Burg, author of SwedishLessons.

Young Eagles to fly
The public is invited to watch
the general aviation planes fly-in
and participate in a chili tasting
from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday,
Nov. 16 at Canton-Plymouth
Mettetal Airport. The airport will
also be the site of educational ses-
sions about the EAA # 113 Young
Eagles Program for student avia-
tors. The Young Eagles is a pro-
gram that introduces young people
between the ages of 8 and 17 to fly-
ing.
Refreshments will be available
and the new additions to the air-
port will be showcased.
Thanksgiving food needed
The Salvation Army is collecting
food items such as turkeys, stuffing,
canned vegetables and other items.
for the Thanksgiving Food
Distribution set forNov. 23 and 25.
More than 450 families will be
helped by the program this year.
The deadline for donations is
Wednesday, Nov. 20. There are also
several volunteer opportunities for
Thanksgiving and Christmas pro-
grams.

City lights holiday tree
Downtown Plymouth in front of
Kellogg Park will be the site of the
annual city holiday tree lighting
beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15.
The Salvation Army will also
begin the annual Red Kettle dona-
tion drive in the city during the
event.
Clothing being collected
Station 885 Restaurant in Old
Village of Plymouth and La
Bistecca Italian Grille on Plymouth
Road are both involved in the Suits
for Soldiers collection project.
Suits for Soldiers provides services
for veterans including clothing
them for job interviews, counsel-
ing, job interview help and much
more.
The restaurants are accepting
gently used, clean clothing through
Nov. 30 which will then be distrib-
uted to members of the armed
forces through the Suits for
Soldiers organization. Monetary
donations will also be accepted.
Checks should bemade out to Suits
for Soldiers.

Jazzercize sponsors fundraiser
Jazzercize of Belleville will host
Shop, Drop & Hop a fundraiser for
The Food Closet at First United
Methodist Church of Belleville
from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the
VanBurenRecreationCenter.
The event will allow guests to
SHOP among vendors to find
unique holiday gifts, DROP off a
donation to help The Food Closet
fulfill their wish list and receive
monetary donations to support
their organization, and HOP to
lively popular music while
Jazzercise is demonstrated.
Vendors will include home-
based businesses and artisans such
as: The Pampered Chef, Scentsy,
Premier Designs Jewelry,
Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One,
Tupperware, Longaberger, and
many others.
Admission to Shop, Drop & Hop
is a free-will cash donation to The
Food Closet or a non-perishable
food item.

Holidayweight challenge set
The Wayne Westland Parks and
Recreation Department is sponsor-
ing the Holiday Weight
Maintenance challenge.
The man and woman with the
most combined percent of weight
loss and body fat will be awarded
the grandprize in the contest.
The initial weigh in is set for 9
a.m. until 8 p.m. Nov. 20-27 or from
9 a.m. until noon on Saturday and
the final weigh-out is scheduled at
the same times from Jan. 2 through
8.
Resident entry fee is $10 and
non-resident entry cost is $20.
Participants who maintain their
weight and body fat within 1 pound
and or 1 percent will split the funds
with others who have maintained
or lost weight. Organizers saidmost
participants will get their entry fee
back.

Used books to be sold
The Friends of the Library have
scheduled used book sales for noon
to 4 p.m. the second Friday and
Saturday of the month in the
Romulus Public Library meeting
room. The next sale dates are Dec.
13-14 at the library, 1121 Wayne

Library hosts clothing drive
The Romulus Public Library,
11121 Wayne Road. will host a win-
ter clothing drive Nov. 11 to Dec. 7.
The goal is to think about others
during the holidays by providing
warmth during the cold Michigan
winter. The collection will include
mittens and hats, which will be
turned over to the Romulus
Goodfellows for distribution to
local families.

Library to sell used books
The Friends of The William P.
Faust Public Library of Westland
will host a used book sale from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16 and
fromnoonuntil 3 p.m. Nov. 17.
Sunday, Nov. 17, is also Bag Day
when $4 buys all books that fit in a
mediumsize bag.
There is preview sale for
Friends members from 306 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 14.
Funds from the book sale are
used to support library programs.
Philharmonic presents
HighlandPipes
TheMichigan Philharmonic will
present Highland Pipes at 2 p.m.
Nov. 17 at First United Methodist
Church inPlymouth.
The concert will include a world
premiere of a Scottish Bagpipe
concerto by Peter Taussig and fea-
ture piper Nancy Tunnicliffe, fresh
from her performance with the
BostonPops.
The concert will also feature
Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3,
known as theScottishSymphony.

Florence Klein, the founder of
the Helping Hand Thrift Store
more than 35 years ago in Romulus
will be the speaker at the noon
luncheon of the Greater Romulus
Chamber of Commerce meeting
Nov. 19.
The meeting will take place at

Belleville Festival of Tress opens
The Belleville Area Museum
will host the 18th Annual Festival
of Holiday trees during regular
museum hours from Nov. 19
throughDec. 28.

The silent auction of trees will

Dec. 10 and Santa will be at the
museum from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
