Sept. 5, 2013.
Among those left to mourn
his passing and cherish his
memory are his two sons,
John Jr. (Mabel) and William;
a daughter, Connie; a grand-
daughter, Austyn; his sister-
in-law, Madeline Mayfield; his
devoted life partner, Helen B.
Robinson; two sisters, Jean
Kersey and Delores Gardner;
a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and extended family
members; and many friends.
Funeral services took place
at Timothy Baptist Church in
Detroit with the Rev. Dr. Keith
L. Dangerfield officiating.
Final arrangements were
entrusted to the Penn
Funeral Home on Inkster
Road in Inkster.
Interment was at Detroit
Memorial
Park-East
in
Warren.

Car raffle under way
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce is sponsoring a drawing
for a 24-month lease on a 2014 Ford
Focus. Mileage allowed will be
10,500 per year.
The drawing will take place at
the Winterfest, on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Ticket cost is $20 each and only
1,000 tickets will be sold. Odds of
winning are better than winning the
lottery, according to chamber repre-
sentatives.
Tickets can now be purchased
through the Belleville Area
Chamber of Commerce, (734) 697-

Senator host coffee hour

Potters host Rakuworkshop
The Village Potters Guild will
sponsor a second Raku Workshop
the evening of Sept. 20 and all day
Sept. 21 at the Guild Located at 340
N. MainStreet inPlymouth.
Participants will be able to
choose from an assortment of styles
of pottery priced from $10-$30 and
will glaze their piece or pieces. The
pots will then be kiln firedwhile the
person is there towatch the process.

Friends host used book sale
The Friends of the William P.
Faust Public Library of Westland
will host a sale of used books, DVDs,

Sunday is also bag day when

Brews, Brats andBands set
The Canton Historical Society
will sponsor the 4th Annual Brew
Brats and Bands at the Barn from 6-
9 p.m. Sept. 21.
The event is a beer tasting
fundraiser for the Canton Historical
Society at the Cady Boyer Barn at
Preservation Park. The event
includes live entertainment, more
than 60, possibly up to 100 different
types of brew, and all the Brats you
can eat. The event will take place
rain or shine. Sponsors include
Holiday Market and the Liberty
Street BrewingCo.
Tickets are priced at $25 if pur-
chased in advance and $30 the day
of the event. Designated driver tick-

Mothers group tomeet
The St. Edith/St. Kenneth
Catholic Parishes' Mothers of
Preschoolers (MOPS) is open to all
mothers with children aged new-
born through kindergarten. The
group is dedicated to providing

The Detroit Red Wings
Foundation will host a free hockey
clinic from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30

The AAUW-Northville Novi

Lila Lazarus, an award-winning
journalist, will be the guest speaker

Legislator hosts town hall meeting
State Rep. Dian Slavens (D-
Canton) will host a town hall meet-
ing on the Affordable Care Act at 6
p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the
Canton Township Administration

Jenita Moore, director of policy for
the Michigan Department of
Insurance and Financial Services,
and Don Hazaert, director of
Michigan Consumers for Health

"As the new health insurance
exchange opens Oct. 1, many people
still have questions about what the
law means for them," Slavens said.
"I'm hosting this meeting to reach
out to my constituents and give
