Parade of Lights:
The official kickoff to
the three-day festival, the parade begins at
Romulus City Hall at 11111 Wayne Road
and travels west past crowds of spectators
on Goddard Road, ending at Progressive
Hall. There will be dozens of parade
entries - each containing lights. The
Romulus Rotary Club, which coordinates
the parade, encourages even more partici-
pation. To join the parade, visit
www.RomulusRotaryClub.com, print and
complete the application and take it with
you to the City Hall parking lot on parade
night. Entries will begin assembling at 6:30
p.m. The parade is scheduled to start at 8
p.m.
Entertainment:
Great music provided by
local entertainers a no cost is a staple of the
Pumpkin Festival. Performing at 6 p.m.
Sept. 14 will be jazz band ChillFX and top
40 bandSecondWind from9:30 to 11 p.m.
Performing Sept. 15 will be Sports Talk
60, Apprehension, Steven Thomas, Voices
in Harmony, Pseudo Science, Starfire and
Quarter Inch Jack. The evening concludes
with Dueling Pianos, featuring Romulus'
own Julian Lambert, starting at 10 p.m. in
thePumpkinPub. Dueling Pianos is a high-
energy, all-request, sing-along, clap-along,
rock 'n' roll comedy piano show where the
audience is just as much a part of the show
as the entertainers. For more information,

there will be a tae kwon do demonstration
byPaul Antolin and friends.
The entertainment on Sept. 16 includes
Hippie Chick, Norbert Glover and Friends,
Step-in-Line (line dancing) andWaco.
Shows:
Classic car owners are invited to
participate in the Cruisin' 2012 Car Show
during the Pumpkin Festival from 11 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on Goddard
Road near Hunt Street. Admission is $10
per car. The first 125 cars to register
between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. will receive
dash plaques. Prizes will be awarded at 3
p.m. To register or obtain more informa-

A tractor and lawn tractor show called
Tractors 2012 is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Romulus
Historical Park. The annual event features
free registration and admission. The first
50 entries receive dash plaques. Advance
registration is appreciated by organizers,
who can be reached at (734) 941-3238 or
(734) 417-7759. Registration also will take
place the day of the showuntil 10 a.m.
Fun and Games:
The annual bingo bene-
fit to raise funds for the Romulus Animal
Shelter is set for 5 p.m. to midnight tomor-
row, from 1 p.m. until midnight Saturday
and from noon until 7 p.m. Sunday at the
Romulus Senior Center, 36525 Bibbins. To
volunteer or donate snacks to sell during
bingo, call the Senior Center at (734) 955-

The fun on Sept. 15 will include a
“Skyhoundz” competition at 11 a.m. on
Olive Road between Bibbins and Ferndale
in Downtown Romulus. Dogs and their
owners compete in a toss-and-fetch flying
disc competition ($5 donation) with pro-
ceeds going to the Animal Shelter. For

ALure Coursing Event is open to dogs at
10 a.m. Sept. 16. Watch your dog chase the
lure around the field. For more informa-
tion, visit www.dogdash.com.
On Sept. 15, there also will be a free
pumpkin-rolling contest, sack races, sand
darts, treasure hunt and “Punkin' Chuckin'”
as well. The next day, there will be giant
airplane races, marshmallow races, crazy
shoe croquet and a pumpkin pie eating
contest.
A three-on-three basketball tournament,
The Men of the Pen, is planned for
Saturday in the parking lot of the Greater
Romulus Chamber of Commerce, 11189
Shook. Players are divided into four age
groups: 6- to 8-year-olds, 9- to 11-year-olds,
12- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 18-year-olds.
The tournament is presented by
Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church. To

Throughout theweekend, therewill be a
rock-climbing wall, a bucking bronco and
inflatable attractions.
Contests:
Residents can enter four con-
tests during this year's Pumpkin Festival
that involve food or growing plants. The
contests will award ribbons for canning
homemade foods (tomatoes, green beans,
pickles and fruit), pie baking (pumpkin,
sweet potato, peach and apple), pumpkin
growing (largest pumpkin wins) and sun-
flower growing (“largest face” and
“tallest”). Items must be submitted by 1
p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 to the Romulus Senior
Center, 36525 Bibbins. Piesmust have a cel-
lophane-type cover. Winners will be
announced on 12:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the
hospitality tent.
The fourth annual strongest person com-
petition will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday,
at the Romulus Athletic Center, 35765
Northline Road. The Pumpkin Festival
competition is open to men and women. It
will involve feats of strength in the RAC
parking lot. For registration information,

contest that awards a free one-year mem-

Food and Drinks:
The members of Boy
Scout Troop 872 will serve their annual all-
you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 a.m.
to noon Sept. 15 at Historical Park.
Admission is $5; $3.50 for seniors. Children
4 and under are served free with an adult
purchase. Half of the proceeds will be
donated to the Animal Shelter. The other
half will be used to ensure Scouting pro-
grams remain available to the boys of
Romulus.
Spaghetti dinners will be served from 4
to 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at Community United
Methodist Church at Olive and Bibbins
streets.
A beer-tasting event will take place from
1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 16 onsite at the “Pumpkin
Pub.” Admission is $10 per person with
proceeds benefiting the Romulus Arts
Council. Space is limited and early arrival
is suggested.
The Romulus Historical Society and
Historical Commission have invited every-
one to visit the historicalmuseum, Kingsley
House and Freight House are open for
tours from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 15-16.
Children's old-fashion lawn games and a
checker contest will begin at 11 a.m. both
days. On Saturday, there will be a quilt dis-
play from noon to 5 p.m. with quilt
appraisals available from Velia Lauerman.
On Sunday, Michelle Good will sing and
play her guitar and accordion. Jacqueline
Blake, anunderground railroad story teller,
will provide an interactive program for
children and thewhole family.
Three Apple iPads are the prizes in a
raffle to support the Romulus Arts Council
and its programs. Tickets can be purchased
at a rate of one for a $5 donation or five for
a $20 donation. To purchase tickets, see a

Community Development Department at

drawing will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16,
on the festival stage in Romulus Historical
Park.
Several PumpkinFestival-related events
take place off-site. A white elephant garage
sale is set for Sept. 15-16 at St. Aloysius
Catholic Church. The Romulus Ministerial
Alliance will present ecumenical services
at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, on the stage at
RomulusHistorical Park.

Councilman William Wadsworth said he
disagreed with the idea that the clerk or the
council was doing anything to suppress voter
rights.
“I think it's unjust and unfair. I've lived in
this town since 1966 and it's a very diverse
town,” said Wadsworth. “People here work
together, and I never in my wildest dreams
ever thought that the ability to vote in this
town was ever tampered with or will be tam-
peredwith.
“This is not the first time we've moved
anything,” he added. “Sometimes, there's a
reason to change yourmind.”
The Friends of the Romulus Library have
planned ausedbook sale next week.
From 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sept. 17, 18 and
19, used book including hardcovers, large
and small paperbacks, children books,
videos and tapes will be for sale at bargain
prices at the library, 11121WayneRoad.
The group has scheduled a bargain bag
day from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22
when patrons can purchase a bag of items
for only $3.
All proceeds from the event will be used
to fund library programs.
