Club license transfer
is withdrawn by owner
The transfer of a liquor license and dance
permit at the Landing Strip Lounge in
Romulus will not happen after all-but that
doesn'tmean the establishment is closing.
Jason Saad, the manager of the club, had
requested the newpermit be issued and liquor
license transferred to Yestofflo, LLC, of which
he is the sole member. The issue came to the
Romulus City Council twice in July, but Saad
eventuallywithdrew it.
“I think they saw the writing on the wall,”
saidRomulus PoliceChief BobDickerson.
Saad had an agreement with the current
owner, Nappo Holdings, to purchase the busi-
ness under a land contract and have the liquor
license, dance and topless entertainment per-
mit transferred tohimbyAugust of 2012.
Dickerson said the police department was
notified in June that he was ready to move for-
ward. While doing a background investigation
required for such a transfer, Dickerson said
Saadhas already taken control of the facility.
“He already had, on paper, been running
the establishment through a family member,”
Dickerson said.
That meant that the alleged illegal activity
that had taken place there, as well as the cur-
rent liquor license violations took place under
his ownership.
“Once we found that out, I couldn't, in good
conscience, recommend the transfer of the
license and permits, based upon what had
been going on there for the past three years,”
Dickerson said.
Dickerson said he conveyed that informa-
tion to the petitioner and his attorney and they
decided to withdraw the petition. The license
now reverts back to Nappo Holdings, accord-
ing toDickerson.
“It's up to them to run the establishment
under the guideline of the Romulus ordi-
nances, the State of Michigan laws, and the
liquor license commission laws-or they can
find someone to sell the license or the business
to, but that wouldmean a background check.”
Dickerson the department hadn't been try-
ing to shut down the club.
“That was never our task; our task was to
investigate the transfer of the license to the
petitioner,”Dickerson said.
“We allowed him the opportunity to come
before us,” Councilman Leroy Burcroff said.
“Basically, they withdrew from the process.
Theywouldhave to start over.”
The issue had come to the city council twice
before, but each time it had been postponed
because the petitioner did not attend themeet-
ing. During those proceedings, members of the
community voiced opposition to its continued
operation of the club.
