and other events, Asztalos said. “We've done
most of this in the last 18months or so as the
public becomes more and more aware of
the drug problems in society.”
“It seems everyone has been touched by
the problemor knows someonewhohas.”
For $15, visitors can enjoy a barbeque
dinner of chicken, pulled pork, hot dogs and
hamburgers, hay rides, pony rides, bocce
ball, horse shoe games, a crap shoot, a pet-
ting farm, a bouncy house, an archery
demonstration, games and prizes for both
adults and children along with entertain-
ment from three bands and a live auction.
There will also be a 50-50 raffle and several
'innovative' takes on games. There is no
admittance charge for children younger
than 5.
“The event is absolutely family friendly
and grows every year,” noted Station 885
owner Rob Costanza, one of the several
local committee members helping to organ-
ize the event. “Last year we had about 200
people and this year we expect more. It's a
really terrific cause. Tino was truly a great
human being, always helping somebody and
this is something that hewould havewanted
to seehappen,” Costanza said.

Back to School Blitz
The Salvation Army in partnership
Van Buren School District, Open Arms
Lutheran Church, Trinity Episcopal
Church and the First United Methodist
Church of Belleville will host a "back to
school blitz" school supply drive from 1-4
p.m. on Aug. 24. The drive seeks to col-
lect new school supplies and backpacks
for Belleville studentsK-12.
Volunteers will be at Trinity Episcopal
Church, 11575 Belleville Road, east of I-
94 to accept donations. The supplies will
then be sorted and packed into back-
packs for distribution to families on
Tuesday, Aug. 26 at The Salvation Army
inPlymouth.
Belleville, Van Buren and Sumpter
families needing assistance should call

an appointment. Proof of residency and
household income as well as identifica-
tion for all children at the time of the
appointment.
Monetary gifts will be used to pur-
chase Payless gift cards that will be dis-
tributed to each child to purchase shoes
towear to school.

sort and pack school supplies on Aug. 25
and distribute school supplies onAug. 26.

Reinvent Inkster meeting set
The Reinvent Inkster Initiative has
scheduled a community meeting from
6:30 to 9 p.m., Aug. 25 at the Inkster
RecreationComplex.
Residents are urged to be a part of
effort by attending the Community
Engagement Sessiondesigned to listen to
feedback about the information gathered
during recent focus group sessions.
The group is developing a strategic
action plan to attract community and
economic development and activity to
the city, according to a prepared release

RomulusNight at Comerica Park
The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce and the City of Romulus are
sponsoring Romulus Night at Comerica
Park onAug. 27.
Check in will begin at city hall at 4:30
p.m. at the bus will leave at 5 p.m. from
the parking lot for the 7:08 p.m. game.
The $65 price includes the bus ride, a
buffet including hot dogs, hamburgers,
cole slaw, pasta salad, baked beans, chips
and soft drinks, and the seat at the game.

Library to sell books
A sale of used books will take place at
the Leanna Hicks Inkster Public Library
from 4-8 p.m. Sept. 4 and from 10 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Sept. 6.
The library is located at 2005 Inkster
Road in Inkster.

accepted and volunteers are still needed.

City to sell homes
The City of Inkster is selling residen-
tial properties in several areas through a
sealed bid auction. Bids, which must be
sealed, will be accepted at the office of
the city clerk, 26215 Trowbridge Ave.,
Inkster until 4 p.m. Sept. 8.
Theminimumbid on the properties is
$1,500 and eachwill be sold in "as is" con-
dition. Bids must be submitted in a
sealed envelope and include the name of
the person or organization submitting the
bid and the words "Sealed bid for" and
the address of the property.
The bids will be opened at 10 a.m.
Sept. 9 at Inkster City Hall. Bidders do
not need to be present. Successful bid-
ders will have five days business days to
respondbefore forfeiting the bidbond

Golf classic planned
The 2014 Northville Community
Foundation Golf Classic to Help Kids is
planned for Sept. 11 at the Inn at St.
John's inPlymouth.
The event includes golf, course con-

ning committee and on the day of the
