Hines Drive Cruise in gear
To the editor:
Do you remember cruising
Hines Drive back in the 70s? Well
then you are going to love this new
cruise. August 28will be the innau-
gural event.
Hines Park will be closed to
“normal” traffic from Ann Arbor
Trail to Outer Drive. Traffic on this
section of Hines will be limited to
classic cars andhot rods.
Classics will be any car that is 25
years and older, while hot rods will
be anything that is modified. All
cars must enter and register at the
Ann Arbor Trail entrance. You will
be able to download a registration
form at www.DonNicholson.net to
make registration move faster.
There is no charge for registration.
Spectators may enter at
Merriman Road, Telegraph Road
and Warrendale. All three of these
pavillions will be free to spectators
during the cruise. Vendors will also
be set up in these areas. If your car
club would like to rent one of the
remaining pavilions, please contact
Don@DonNicholson.net Vendor
spots aremoving fast, so if youwant
to be part of this great event, get in
contact soon. We are still looking
for food and product vendors.
Vendors need to be approved
through Don Nicholson
Enterprises, LLC.
We still have banner locations
available to promote your support
for the new event in Wayne County.
Have your name in front of thou-
sands of classic car people. All
banners must be approved by Don
NicholsonEnterprises, LLC.
We will also be hosting hourly
parades and “Henry's Field”.
Parades will consist of one brand
ormodel of car parading single file,
and will occur on the hour, so you
could see 100 Mustangs in a row.
Henry's Field will be an area
reserved for all pre-1931 vehicles.
Don'tmiss out onCruisin' Hines.

paramedics treat false alarms and
the foibles of human nature just as
often as they save the life of a heart
attack or stroke victim. Police offi-
cers are just as likely to find a 14-
year-old thief as a gun-wielding
drug addict holding a houseful of
peoplehostage.
But every call, every run has the
potential to be the one that keeps
these people from going home
when their shift ends. They, howev-
er, don't hesitate. When the call
comes in, they go. They don't stop to
weigh their own safety or the con-
sequences. Their job is to protect
and to serve and that's exactly what
they do. Every single time, no mat-
terwhat.
So saying thank you, expressing
some gratitude, some recognition
for the incredible service these
people provide to the community
every day, every hour, is more than
appropriate. We commend the
Public Safety Chaplains from Van
Buren who came up with the idea
and are organizing the event and
those who approved the concept
and are encouraging residents to
attend.
Despite the name, which is sure
to be fodder for plenty of jokes, this
is a great idea. Residents will be
asked to donate $3 for their meal
and all the proceeds will be used in
a special fund the chaplains have
established to help burn victims
and thosewho are in need of finan-
cial help for funerals.
The Open Arms Lutheran
Church is located at 7865 Belleville
Road. More information is avail-
able at (734) 699-5000.
“I had 150 of these kids on stage
for the final shot, and you could
have heard a pin drop. That's how
well these kids work together,” he
said.
These young people all speak of
the music program at Wayne
Memorial as a family. Every one of
them will talk about that feeling of
support, of belonging, of achieve-
ment they experience. From this
program they are learning to work
with others, to get along, to compro-
mise for the sake of getting a
desired result. They are experienc-
ing the growth in self confidence
that peer acceptance and common
goals can provide----something too
often lacking during the hellacious
days of adolescence.
These students are learning far
more thanhow tomakemusic.
To everyone involved, take a
bow. Youdeserve it.
