SilverSneakers seeksmembers
The Wayne-Westland Parks and Recreation
is now offering SilverSneakers at the Wayne
Community Center. This program is covered
by many health plans for individuals 65 years
and over.
A SilverSneaker membership allows usage
of the Aquatic Area, Indoor Track,
Wellness/Fitness Area, Cardio-Theater Area
andDry/Wet Saunas at theCommunity Center.

School needs being collected
Plymouth Community United Way is spon-
soring a Back to School Supplies Drive
throughFriday, Aug. 23.
New socks and underwear are needed as
well as pencils, paper, erasers and all other
school supplies. Donations may be dropped
off at the Plymouth Canton United Way office
at 960W. AnnArbor Trail, Suite 2 inPlymouth.

Raffle tickets aid shelter
Jake's Auto and Truck Repair has donated
a 2013 Del Ray scooter which is being raffled
off to help fund theRomulus Animal Shelter.
Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and are
available at both Jake's locations, 36766
Goddard Road and 12003 S. Huron River Dr,
at the Romulus Animal Shelter and from City
CouncilmanWilliamWadsworth.
The drawing will take place during the
Romulus Downtown Development Authority
Pumpkin Festival at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 on the
WabashFreightHouseEntertainment Stage.

Annual YardSale planned
The Belleville Area Museum and
Historical Society needs new or slightly used
unwanted items for the upcoming Belleville
CityWideYardSale, set for Sept. 5-8.
Items can be dropped off at the museum,
405 Main St., or at John Juriga's home on East
Huron River Drive. Tax donation letters will
be issued for all donations.
Volunteers are also needed to helpwith the
sale. Those interested in helping should con-

Softball leagues now forming
The Wayne Westland Parks and Recreation
Department is now accepting registrations for
theFall Softball Leagues
Games will take place weekdays at
Anderson Park andWayne and Jaycee Park in
Westland. There will be a managers meeting
at 7 .m. Sept. 4 at the Wayne Community
Center. Games will begin the week of Sept. 10.
Registration fee is $250 per team and must be
paid in full at the time of registration. An addi-
tional $13 per team must be paid to the
umpire at the beginning of each game.

Play golf at the library
The Wayne Public Library will be the site
of an indoor golf course from 11 a.m. until 4
p.m. Aug. 17.
The Friends of the Wayne Public Library
are hosting the indoor mini-golf event as a
fundraiser to help pay for children's library
programs andmaterials.
Tickets, available at the library, are $3 for
those ages 6-18 and $5 for those $18 and older
and family tickets for up to six people are
prices at $15. Children younger than 5 canplay
for free. All children must be accompanied by
an adult.
Therewill be lunch available for purchase.

Churchmarks anniversary
The BeulahMissionary Baptist Church will
celebrate it's 80th church anniversary with a
special speaker at the 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aug.
18 services.
Pastor Randolph Thomas of the Greater
Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in
Detroit will be the speaker for the 10 a.m. serv-
ice and Pastor Patrick Franklin of the Healing
SpringMissionary Baptist Church inHighland
Parkwill be the speaker for the 4 p.m. service.

WeekendBible school planned
Romulus Freewill Church is planning a
weekend "Hay Day" Vacation Bible School for
children 5-12 years old from5-8:30 p.m. Aug. 16
and 17. Children 3 and 4 years old can attend
is a parent stayswith them.
Events planned include a free dinner,
games, crafts, and entertainment by Sunflower
Samalongwith a tractor ride.
Dinnerwill be served at 5:30 on bothFriday
andSaturday.
There will be a celebration finale from 11
a.m. until 1 p.m. onSunday for families.

Free Family Fest planned
CrossPointe Community Church will host
the 8th annual FreeFamily Fest andCar Show
fromnoonuntil 5 p.m. Aug. 24.
There will be free food, rides, games, music
and a classic car show. The first 500 cars regis-
tered will have spots on the field. There is no
registration fee.

Queens of diamonds
The 18U Queens of Diamonds Elite took home the fifth place trophy in the USSSA
Class A World Series at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Florida July 27-Aug. 3. The
Queens were the only team from Michigan among 26 of the best teams in the country
from 14 different states in a double elimination format. All 10 of the Queens graduated
seniors are committed to play college softball next year, including, left to right,
Catherine Porter, Brittney Miller, center row, Lauren Oppliger, Nicole Salloum, Ashley
Gordon, Jordyn Fryz, Jessica Webster, Megan Coliton, Elaine Gerou and assistant
coach Nolan Gerou. In the back row are assistant coach Kevin O'Doherty, Kendall
Wolf, Head Coach Mike Gerou and Tessa O'Doherty.
