Christmas in July Sunday
It really will be Christmas in July this
Sunday.
Trinity Episcopal Church will present
The Nativity Story, as told by professional
local storyteller Linda Luke, from 7-8 p.m.
July 29.
The events of the first Christmas will be
recounted in four acts, through storytelling
and song.
Admission is free but donations will be
accepted on behalf of Friends of Michigan
AnimalsRescue.

Summer music series begins
Music Lakeside,a free summer music
series sponsored by the Belleville Area
Council for the Arts, will present entertain-
ment every Thursday evening through
Aug. 16. The concerts will take place in
Horizon Park on High Street in Belleville
and will feature musical entertainment by
thewater.
Visitors should bring lawn chairs, blan-
kets, or arrive by boat. Food is available
this year from Cosa Sabrosa, a new addi-
tion, featuring fresh tacos, burritos, salsas
and much more. Also returning will be
Egan's Pub andTheGelatoWagon.
In case of rain, concerts will be moved
tot theMethodist Church across the street.
Senior games registration opens
A wide variety of events has been
scheduled for senior citizens interested in
competing in the Third Annual Canton
Senior Games, which are scheduled to
take place Aug. 20-23. Canton Club 55+
will offer a variety of events in which sen-
iorsmay compete in for a nominal fee for a
chance towin in their age category.
Events include:Sports Tournaments
(golf, Pickleball, tennis, billiards),
Cards/Wii Games (Euchre, Pinochle, Will
bowling, trivia), and Field Games (bean
bag toss, Bocce ball, softball throw, basket-
ball shot, football toss and ring toss).
Competitions will take place through-
out Canton at: Pheasant Run Golf Club,
Summit on the Park, Heritage Park,
Freedom Park and Griffin Park.

Clothing giveaway planned
Lighthouse Home Mission in Westland
will host a free clothing giveaway from 10
a.m. until 7 p.m. July 27 and 28.
This year, clients can also purchase a
new gray cloth bag for $2 and can fill it to
the top with clothing. There is no limit to
the number of bags that canbe purchased.

Memorial walk, yoga set
Old Glory Flags and Flagpoles and
Canton Leisure Services have joined
forces to host “The Lynn M. Bentley
Memorial Walk, Talk and Yoga Event To
Benefit The Wounded Warrior Project,”
with Dan Nevins beginning at 9 a.m.
Saturday, July 28.
This special fundraiser will take place
in Heritage Park, which is adjacent to the
CantonAdministrationBuilding, located at
1150 S. Canton Center Road. Participants
are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for event
day check-in or registration.
This event will begin with a 1-mile
warm-up walk around the scenic ponds of
Heritage Park, which will lead into the
yoga sessionwithNevins, who has traveled
the globe teaching and sharing the healing
powers of yoga and purposeful thought.
After the walk, participants of all ages and
abilities can either choose to take part in
the yoga session or just have coffee and lis-
ten toNevins' talk.
All proceeds from this event will go to
benefit Wounded Warrior Project. Tickets
are currently on sale now at

$25 the week of the event and $30 on-site
the day of the event. Participants will
receive a tax statement at the end of 2018
stating the portion of the donation that is
tax deductible. Veterans will receive free
admission to this event.

Northville merchants will be on sale from
10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 27 and from
10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28.
Community Band sets concert
The Belleville Community Band will
present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. July 28
at Belleville First United Methodist
Church.

Car show in downtownNorthville
A celebration of the 90th anniversary of
the Plymouth Owners Club will take place
in downtown Northville from 8 a.m. until 5
p.m. Saturday, July 28.
The car show will take place In con-
junction with the Concours d'Elegance on
July 29, at the Inn at St. John's. The
Northville show is the Grand National
Meet which takes place only once every 10
years.
Organizers said some of the finest,
rarest, history-making vehicles will be in
downtown streets ondisplay.
This is a free event, open to the public.
Mother andSon outing set
Plymouth residents can cheer on the
Detroit Tigers when they play the
Cleveland Indians during the first-ever
Mother-Son outing Sunday, July 29.
Participants in the event, hosted by the
City of Plymouth Recreation Department,
will depart from the Plymouth Cultural
Center, 525Farmer St. inPlymouth at 10:30
a.m. July 29 for a trip toComericaPark.
The afternoon will be full of fun, base-
ball and memories, organizers said. Event
price includes tickets to the game as well
as transportation to and from Comerica
Park. Young men, 14 and younger can
enjoy free carousel and Ferris wheel rides
throughout the day and at the end of the
game kids can run the bases, weather per-
mitting. Tickets are $35/each and advance
ticket purchase is required because space
is limited.

Westland hosts Blues legend
Blues, Brews and Barbeque in
Westland is known around the region for
bringing together some of the greatest
musical talent the metro Detroit area has
to offer
This year, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday,
Aug. 3, The Boa Constrictors perform. The
Boa Constrictors are a Detroit Blues band
with a rockabilly twist.
They will include collaboration with
Chicago Blues legend John Watkins from
7:30 to 8:30 p.m. During the late 1970s and
early 1980s, Watkins stood out as one of the
most promising young blues guitarists and
singers in Chicago, organizers said. In the
late 1980s, Watkinsmoved toDetroit where
he played locally for many years, treating
crowds to his guitar playing and soulful
blues singing.
Relay for Life event set
A Disney-themed Relay for Life will
take place from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4
until 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 in Senior
Center Park, 36525Bibbins inRomulus.
The park is located behind the Senior
Center off Olive Street.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour fundraising
event with food, games, music and fun for
the whole family. The event is open to the
public.

The League of Women Voters of
Northwest Wayne County is offering
assistance to those voting in the
PrimaryElection Aug. 7.
The group has provided an on-line
voter guide at VOTE411.org. Visit
VOTE411.org to read and compare
candidate responses to relevant
issues, locate a polling place, check
voting hours, learn about ballot meas-
ures, and read tips about voting in
Michigan.
The League also hosted candidate
forums for the 11thDistrict U.S. House
of Representatives- both the
Republican and Democratic candi-
dates, and the 16th District State
Representative and 6th District State
Senate. Forums also took place
regarding the three positions in
Sumpter Township: clerk, treasurer
and board of trustees. Video links for
