Library collects for veterans
The Canton Public Library is currently col-
lecting donations for patients at the Veterans
Hospital inAnnArbor.
Items needed include packages of new
men's t-shirts and underwear in all sizes, but
especially sizes XXL and larger. Meijer,
Walmart and gas station gift cards are also
suggested as ideal donations.
Donations will be accepted at the library,
1200 S. Canton Center Road, during regular
hoursMay 18 through 31.
The library is open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 6
p.m. Friday and Saturday and fromnoon until
6 p.m. onSunday.

Health extravaganza set
A free Health and Wellness Extravaganza
featuring world renowned Dr. Joel Wallach,
BS, DVM, ND author of "Dead Doctors Don't
Lie" will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
May 20 at the Romulus Athletic Center. There
will be a seminar from5:30 until 8 p.m.
A second session is planned for 10 a.m.
until 2 p.m. Thursday May 24 at Hope United
Methodist Church, 26275 Northwestern
Highway in Southfield. A seminar will take
place from5:30--8 p.m.
The health expos are open to all ages and
activities, music, product booths, seminars
and more are planned. The emphasis is edu-
cation to stop fatalities among young athletes.

Reunion tickets available
Tickets for the Wayne High School Alumni
Association annual all class reunion can be
purchased for $35 per person.
The banquet is planned for 5-10 p.m.
Friday May 16 at Wayne Tree Manor, 35100

Veterans' services offered
The Downriver Community Conference
(DCC)will have a service officer from the
American Legion at the DCC building from 9
a.m. until 4 p.m. onThursdays, May 15 through
the end of June. The officer will be in room
162 of the building, located at 15100 Northline
Road, Southgate. No appointments are sched-
uled, and service will be on a first come first
served basis. Questions may be directed to
theAmericanLegion office at (313) 964-6640.
This Veterans Service Office will be a "One
Stop Shop" for veterans' service needs includ-
ing pension, disability, compensation claims,
seniors, and current military assistance. DCC
programs also assist veterans with employ-
ment needs, home weatherization, and busi-
ness related services.
Bowlers to aid shelter
The 10th annual 9PinNoTapTournament,
a fundraiser for the Romulus Animal Shelter,
will take place beginning at 7:30 p.m. May 16
at Romulus Lanes. Registration will begin at
6:30.
The fee is $25 per person and includes
ladies' and men's mystery games, snacks and
cashprizes. There is a 50-50 raffle planned.

Golf outing benefits charity
TheBellevilleAreaChamber of Commerce
will partner with the Boys & Girls Club of
Southeastern Michigan; the Richard and
Patricia Donahey (Belleville) and Romulus
clubs for the annual Golf Outing.
This year the event will take place Friday,
May 16, at Pine ViewGolf Course in Ypsilanti.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun
start at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $100 per golfer.
Banquet only tickets can be purchased for
$40.
Included in the entry fee is 18 holes of golf
with cart, use of driving range prior to outing,
contests, lunch at the turn, steak dinner, four
drink tickets and each participant will be
included in the door prize drawing.

Finish the Fight fundraiser set
TheWestland-Wayne Relay for Life team is
sponsoring a fundraiser beginning at 6:30 p.m.
May 16 at Westland Bowl, 5940 N. Wayne
Road.
Bowlingwill begin at about 7:15 p.m. organ-
izers said.
The $20 donation includes a door prize
ticket, three games of bowling, shoe rental and
pizza.

Used books for sale
The Friends of the William P. Faust Public
Library of Westland, 6123 Central City
Parkway, have planned a used book, DVD and
CDsale for thismonth.
Hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. May 16 and
17 and fromnoonuntil 3 p.m. May 18.

FarmFest planned
Farm Fest will return to Maybury Farm in
Northville from10 a.m. until 4 p.m. May 17.
The day will include hayrides, face paint-
ing, activities for youngsters, antique tractors,
food demonstrations, spinning demonstra-
tions, sheep shearing and many other activi-
ties.
Farm Fest is traditionally the day the new-
born baby animals are introduced to the pub-
lic.
Admission to Farm Fest is $3 per person
and children younger than 2 are admitted at
no cost.
There is free parking.
Maybury Farm is located at 50165 Eight
Mile Road in Northville, about a half mile
past the state park entrance.

Identity theft is topic
Representatives from The Senior Brigade
will visit the Leanna Hicks Inkster Public
Library to discuss identity theft at a meeting
set to begin at 6 p.m. May 19.
Topics discussedwill include how to recog-
nize and avoid identity theft, how thieves steal
and what they do with your identity, how to
protect yourself and what to do if you become
a victim.
There is no fee for the meeting which is
open to the public.
The library is located at 2005 Inkster Road
in Inkster.
Literacy tutors needed
Volunteers interested in teaching other to
read are invited to an informational meeting
at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 19 at the Romulus
PublicLibrary.
The library is starting an Adult Literacy
Program and looking for tutors willing to par-
ticipate on a one-to-one basis with adults in
need.

The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce will host Wayne County Executive
Robert A. Ficano as the luncheon speaker at

School celebrates diversity
Wick Elementary School in Romulus will
be presenting the Celebration of Cultures and
Families from5:50-7:30 p.m. May 21.
The event is a celebration of the varied cul-
tures and countries represented by students
at the school. Wick is a School of Choice and
any student who resides in Wayne County is
eligible to enroll.
The event is free and open to the public.

Big catch
The 19th Annual Wayne
County Parks Fishing
Derby will take place begin-
ning at 8 a.m. this
Saturday, May 17, at
Waterford Bend Park in
Northville. More than 800
rainbow trout wi l l be
stocked for children, 12
and younger, to try to catch
during the free event. No
fishing license is required
but participants must bring
their own equipment and
bait. At 10 a.m. fishing will
be open to all ages and at
10:30, prizes will be pre-
sented. The event is spon-
sored by the Vietnam
Veterans of America
