Pancakes promote relay for life
A pancake breakfast is scheduled for 8 to
11 a.m. April 28 at Community United
Methodist Church, 11160 Olive St. in
Romulus.
Proceeds will benefit Relay for Life, the
signature fundraising event of the American
Cancer Society. The breakfast will be provid-
ed by the Relay team known as Fighting
Spirit.
Library sells used books
The Friends of the William P. Faust
Library of Westland will host a used book
sale to help fund library programs. Budget
cuts have impacted funding for many library
programs which the group hopes to help
finance, according to a library trustee.
The sale will take place at the library 6123
Central City Parkway in Westland from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. May 4 and 5 and from noon
until 3 p.m. May 6.
Coffee table books are priced at $2, hard-
cover non-fiction books are $1 and large
paperbacks are 50 cents. There are many
other classifications on sale for 25-10 cents
each.
Sunday is bag day when visitors can bring
there ownbag and fill it for $4.

Lions host euchre tournament
The Canton Lions Club is calling all
euchre players for the second annual Canton
Lions Club Euchre Tournament on Saturday,
May 5, 2012, at the Plymouth Elks Club locat-
ed at 41700AnnArborRoad inPlymouth.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and play begins
at 7 p.m. Awards will be given to the top four
players with the highest scores. There will
also be an optional raffle for more great
prizes. Food is included.

Caregiving conferences slated
The 11th Annual Partners in Family
Caregiving Conferences provides the infor-
mation and resources caregivers need to
take care of both themselves and their care
recipients. Events will feature informational
displays, workshops, giveaways and a variety
of professionals to help caregivers find the
information and resources they need.
Free health and hearing screenings will
be provided throughout the conferences. The
conferences are free to attend and are will
take place throughout Wayne County, includ-
ingCantonTownship and Inkster.
Conferences have been scheduled for
noon until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the
Booker Dozier Recreation Center, 2025
Middlebelt Road in Inkster and from 5:50-9
p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at Summit on the Park.

Author to speak at library
Ann Pearlman, who has been nominated
for the National Book Awards and a Pulitzer
Prize, will be a special guest at 6:30 p.m.
Monday, April 30, during the Spring Author
Series at theRomulus PublicLibrary.
Pearlman is the author of The Christmas
Cookie Club and A Gift for My Sister, coming
out inMay. Her memoir, Infidelity, was nomi-
nated for the two prestigious awards andwas
made into aLifetimemovie.

Blood drive at city hall
The American Red Cross is sponsoring a
blood drive at Plymouth City Hall from 10
a.m. until 3:45 p.m. May 1.

The Northville Township Beautification
Commission is in need of volunteers for the
Spring Garden Clean up planned at
Northville Township Hall from 9 a.m. until

Cinco deMayoDinner planed
The Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue
group is planning the fifth Annual Cinco de
Mayo Dinner as a fundraiser for the
Belleville facility
This year the event will take place at the
Ypsilanti Eagles Hall, 2935 Holmes Road in
Ypsilanti. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and
dinnerwill be served at 6 onMay 5.
Tickets are $25 per person and include
the buffet of Mexican dishes, desserts, non-
alcoholic beverages and musical entertain-
ment. There will also be a cash bar and sev-
eral raffle prizes.

Bowling event aids animal shelter
A 9-pin No Tap Tournament is planned at
Romulus Lanes beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday
May 11 to benefit the new Romulus Animal
Shelter.
The event is dedicated to the memory of
Frank Ayers and registration will begin at
6:30 p.m.
The cost is $25 per person which includes
mystery games for both men and women,
snacks and cash prizes. There are only 72
spots available so early registration is sug-
gested. There will also be prizes and a 50/50
raffle.
