2014 BOARD OF REVIEW
To the taxpayers of the City of Romulus: The Board of Review will meet in the Romulus City Hall, (Lower
Level) Community Room, 11111 Wayne Road, Romulus, MI 48174 on the following dates and times by
APPOINTMENT ONLY
for the purpose of reviewing the assessment roll. Please come prepared, as a ten (10)
minute time limit before the Board will be strictly adhered to.
Meeting dates are as follows:
March 10, 2014:
9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
March 11, 2014:
2:00 pm to 5:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
March 13, 2014:
9:00 am to 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Residents and Non-Residents may appeal by (1) making an appointment to appear before the Board
OR
(2) in
writing (personal appearance is not required). The Board of Review MUST receive all written appeals/docu-
mentation no later than March 13, 2014 at 3:00 pm.
Property owners may appoint and authorize a representative to appear on their behalf. According to Ordinance,
all Representatives or Agents MUST submit an original, notarized, current proof of authorization to act on
behalf of the property owner as a prerequisite to appeal to the Board of Review.

dents are needed to participant in
the Polar Plunge into the icy water
on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the
Belleville Yacht Club (BYC) to raise
funds and awareness for Special
Olympics Michigan athletes. The
Belleville area plunge is one of 30
Law Enforcement Torch Run ®
Polar Plunges inMichigan in 2014.
Plunge registration begins at 10
a.m. and the Parade of Costumes
will start at 11:45 a.m. with the
plunge beginning at noon. The
post-plunge party and awards cere-
mony is scheduled to begin imme-
diately following the plunge at BYC
With a crazy costume, a mini-
mum donation of $75 and the
courage to take part in one of 30
2014 Polar Plunges, individuals can
help provide more athletes with
inclusive opportunities through

This Polar Plunge is one of 30
Polar Plunges planned throughout
Michigan from January through
March 2014. The annual Law
Enforcement Torch Run Polar
Plunge is known for its zany cos-
tume contest where plungers com-
pete for the Golden Plunger Award.
The award honors the plunger with
the most creative costume or best
jump into the water. All plungers
receive incentive prizes and an offi-
cial 2014 Polar Plunge T-shirt.
Individuals who don't want to
plunge can also collect donations to
receive a T-shirt that bears the “Too
Chicken toPlunge” logo.
The Polar Plunge is made possi-
ble by the Law Enforcement Torch
Run®, a group of police officers
and corrections personnel commit-
ted to raising funds and awareness
for Special Olympics.
Proceeds from the Polar Plunge
support the year-round sports
training and athletic competition
for 19,613 children and adults with
intellectual disabilities who live in

Chinese calligraphy on exhibit
The art of Chinese writing and calligraphy
is now on display at a new exhibit at the
Brown and Juanita C. Ford Art Gallery at the
Wayne County Community College District
Western Campus, located at 9555 Haggerty
Road inBelleville.
The exhibit is open to the public at no
charge during regular gallery hours - 9 a.m.
until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through
Feb. 28.
Chinese writing as an art form has been
celebrated for centuries. Part art show and
part art history exploration, the exhibit fea-
tures the work of Dr. SuiWah Chan, professor
emeritus at the College of Human Medicine
at Michigan State University and an associ-
ate of the Confucius Institute and China
Mirror Project at the University of Michigan;
as well as the calligraphy of He Bing Wu, a
master artist and professor and director of
the Institute of Ancient Texts at the Academy
of Social Sciences inXian, Shaanxi Province.

Other funds were set aside to pay for sen-
ior services such as chores, minor home
repair and transportation, as well as hous-
ing rehabilitation throughout the city. The
funds are available through the CDBG pro-
gram because the senior center was paid off
last year.
The council members voted unanimously
on the expenditures.

Last year, city council members approved
a resolution recognizing Col. Roach as a
hometown hero. Earlier this year, Russell
and Burcroff posed for a photo with an
enlarged ceremonial check. Burcroff drafted
a mayoral proclamation about the good
deed. Russell mailed both of those to Jarmin,
along with a video copy of the city council
meeting at which the donation was dis-
cussed.
Pet vaccination drive planned
Pet owners can get their animals vacci-
nated during the annual Dog and Cat
Inoculation Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Romulus Animal
Shelter, 12300WayneRoad.
Vaccinations are provided by Dr. John
Hermann of the Animal Shelter. Prices
start at $14 for one-year rabies shots. Other
inoculations will be available, along with
microchips and heart worm tests. Dogs, cats
and ferrets are included in the vaccination
program.
The event is viewed as "one-stop shop-
ping" for pet owners. Nail trimming for dogs
will be provided for $5 by Fluff N Puff,
Cruisin' Clippers andBritts.
City of Romulus dog licenses can be pur-
chased during the event as well, ranging
from $7 for a one-year license to $15 for a
three-year license. Sizable discounts on
licenses are offered for the owners of steril-
izeddogs andpets ownedby senior citizens.
