Free tax help for seniors offered
The City of Wayne Senior Services will
offer the tax assistance through the
American Association of Retired Persons.
The program is free to anyone who files
basic tax forms and all returns will be e-
filed the day of preparation.
Taxes will be prepared each
Wednesday during February and March
by appointment only. To make an appoint-

Wayne to host Winterfest
Winterfest will take place all day Feb. 4
at the Wayne Community Center where
activities including the Northpole Classic
(a
golf
fundraiser),
a
dance/gymnastics/cheer mini-show, dinner
theatre, open skating, and Poolooza: the
grand re-opening Splash Bash Party of the
pool including free water fitness classes,
open swimming, meet and greet swim-
ming instructors, prize drawings, and
more eventswill take place.

Those with Canadian roots will
exclaim, "Aye!" as the Northville
Genealogical Society presents a compre-
hensive overview of significant resources
and useful strategies for successful
Ontario research. This month the presen-
ter will be experienced family researcher
KathleenAnnLaBudie-Szakall.
The 2:30 meeting is on Sunday, Feb.12,
at the Northville District Library, 212 West
Cady. At 1:15, presentation, there will be a
roundtable discussion of the information
available at the internet site FindAGrave.
The public is welcome to attend both ses-
sions, free of charge.

Free legal assistance offered
Neighborhood Legal Services of
Michigan will offer a free presentation for
Wayne County residents, 60 and older, at
10 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Wayne Community
Center, 4635HoweRoad inWayne.
Following the presentation, seniors
may speak with an attorney who will offer
legal assistance on most civil cases includ-
ing wills, guardianship, trusts, power of
attorney, assisted living and othermatter.

Legislator plansmeetings
State Rep. Kurt Heise will meet with
local residents district office hours on
Monday, Feb. 13 in Northville, Wayne and
Plymouth.
From 10-11 a.m., he will be at the
NorthvilleDistrict Library, 212W. Cady St.,
Northville. He will meet with residents
from 1-2 p.m. at Wayne Community Center,
4635 Howe Road, Wayne and from 3-4, he
will be at the Plymouth District Library,
223 S. MainSt., Plymouth.
Heise is also available tomeet with con-
stituents by appointment either in the dis-
trict or at his Lansing office. Residents can

Genealogyworkshop is scheduled
Genealogists Keith and Ginger Bruder
will facilitate a four-week Genealogy
Workshop at the Belleville Area District
Library beginning at 7 p.m. Feb. 15.
The Thursday sessions will take place
in the library program room. The Feb. 15
topicwill be Introduction of Genealogy. On
Feb. 22, the topic will be Vital Records and
on Feb. 29, Internet Tools will e discussed.
The final session on March 7 will eature a
librarian from the Detroit Public Burton
Historical Collection.

Students host blood drive
The Student Council at Hillside School
will host a blood drive from 2-8 p.m. Feb.
22 at the school
The blood drive is sponsored by the
American Red Cross and appointments

area, click and find Hillside Middle
School.
Snowman photos sought
The City of Plymouth Recreation
Department is accepting entries into the
Snowman Photo Contest until 4:30 p.m.
March 2. Judging will take place the week
of March 5 and the winner announced
March 12.
Children are encouraged to build a
snowman, dress him up and take a photo
to email to lbosniuk@ci.plymouth.mi.us.
Photos can also be mailed to the
Recreation Department, 525 Farmer in
Plymouth.

Art House exhibitsmembers' work
The Northville Art House will host the
6th Annual Member Exhibition from Feb.
3-18.
The annual member exhibition was
developed to showcase the art by mem-
bers of theArtHouse.
Artists can become members of the
group by completing an application avail-
able at www.northvillearts.org. Entry
forms for the exhibition are also available
for download at the site.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Steve
March Tormé - noted jazz/pop singer and
son of legendary jazz crooner, Mel Tormé,
will perform his father's favorite stan-
dards in “Tormé Sings Tormé,” at the
Wayne County Community College
District Heinz C. Prechter Educational
and Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 11. He will be accompa-
nied by his jazz trio. The performance is
sponsored by the college university cen-
ter.
“Steve Tormé's performances have
such a warmth, with arrangements that
are fun, engaging and sure to spark a
memory or two,” said Dr. Curtis L. Ivery,
chancellor of the college. “We're delighted
that he'll be on our stage Feb. 11 to help
our audience create wonderful new
Valentine'sDaymemories.”
Steve March Tormé is the oldest son of
the famous jazz performer, Mel Tormé,
and has been a composer and performer
since his first composition was sung by
Desi Arnaz, Jr. on an episode of the Here's
Lucy television show. Reaching promi-
nence in the early 1980s, Tormé has con-
tinued to record for a variety of independ-
ent labels, including award-winning
releases of Tormé Sings Tormé and
Inside/Out. Tormé actively tours, perform-
ing with his jazz trio, big bands and sym-
phony orchestras.
The Heinz C. Prechter Educational
and Performing Arts Center is located on
WCCCD Downriver Campus at 21000
Northline Road in Taylor. Tickets are $35
