Winters in Michigan mean that
chances are most students will
have at least one unexpected snow
day during thewintermonths.
Area youth in and around
Canton can now take advantage of
the free snowy activities in
Heritage Park any time the
Plymouth-Canton Community
Schools cancel classes due to
inclement weather.
Snow Day activities will take
place from 1-4 p.m. at the
Amphitheater in Heritage Park,
located adjacent to the Canton
Administration Building at 1150 S.
Canton Center Road. Once school
has officially been cancelled, chil-
dren of all ages can bundle up and
get knee deep in the snow for some
memory-making fun.
Canton Leisure Services
Recreation staff will host the free,
supervised outdoor recreational
activities, includ-
ing sledding, snow-
man and snow
angel contests, and friendly snow-
ball fights. Warm beverages,
including hot chocolate, may also
be available for purchase. In addi-
tion, staff may even lead a wintry
scenic nature walk around the
ponds in Heritage Park, if condi-
tions permit.

Area residents can make this a
Valentine's Day to remember and
support the arts in the process.
A benefit event for the
Partnership for Arts and
Humanities will feature music by
Steve King and the Dittilies and
tasty fare from area restaurants at
the Rock 'N' Roll Valentine's, sched-
uled to begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at
TheVillageTheater at CherryHill.
The benefit is sponsored by
Glenn and Patty Shaw, Don and
Colleen Soenen, and Frank and Jill
Engel. Proceeds will benefit the
Partnership for the Arts and
Humanities, a local non-profit
organization dedicated to support-
ing the growth of cultural arts in the
Canton community. This fundraiser
will begin with a reception featur-
ing appetizers by P.F. Chang's China
Bistro from Northville and Station
885 from Plymouth. Delicious
desserts will also be provided by
The Chop House from Ann Arbor.
In addition, the Showroom of
Elegance and Indigo Salon andDay
Spa will be on site offering several
Valentine's promotions.
The festivities continue with a
special Rock 'N' Roll Valentine con-
cert at 8 p.m.
Since the 1970s, Steve King and
the Dittilies have performed
around the globe on stage, televi-
sion and radio and have earned a
reputation as one of the most enter-
taining rock 'n' roll bands around.
In addition to great music, these
entertainers are known for adding
a bit of a variety show to their act,
spicedwith current topical comedy.
Following the performance,
there will be an afterglow at
Hayden's Bar and Grill, located at
39895 Ford Road, where couples
can receive a free appetizer just by
showing their concert ticket.

Boosters will host the Annual
Spring Arts and Crafts Ensemble
on Saturday, March 10 at Plymouth
HighSchool inCantonTownship.
The juried art event takes place
twice a year to help support the
band and color guard programs at
the Plymouth-Canton Educational
Park.
Artists and crafters who are
interested in applying for consider-
ation to exhibit should visit

an application and submit with
photos as soon as possible. A limit-
ed number of openings are avail-
able. Jewelers need not apply; the
maximum number of jewelers per-
mitted is set for the spring show.

Canton 911 received a report of a
house fire in the 47000 block of Ford
Road at about 8 p.m. last Sunday.
The caller stated that flames visible
in theupstairswindowof thehouse.
Canton police officers arrived on
scene first and reported the two-
story single family residence was
unoccupied and that there was fire
on the second floor, according to fire
department reports of the incident.
Upon arrival, firefighters made
entry into the home with two 1-3/4
inch hand lines and found construc-
tion material burning on the floor.
The fire was extinguished and posi-
tive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans
were used to remove smoke from

the second floor with smoke dam-
age throughout the house, which
was undergoingmajor renovations.
No one was home at the time of
the fire, and no injuries were
reported.
