“Our motto is Friend of Youth,” Cox said, and that's really
what we try to be with all our activities and efforts. We raise
money for the youth in thePlymouthCanton area.
The Optimists Club helps fund the Penrickton School for
the Blind and the Burger School which educates autistic
children in grades kindergarten through 12.
The Optimists donate to the Plymouth Historical
Museum, First Step, theYMCA, Friends of the Penn, several
area food banks, the Salvation Army, Miracle League of
Plymouth, the Methodists Children's Home and also funds
scholarships at thehigh school.
This year, judges Jill Andra Young, a professional pet
photographer, JenniferWilliams of Pawsatively Pet Massage
and Karen Ochman, who had a pony in the pet show when
she was in her teens, will take a look at the dog categories
first, beginning at 9 a.m. Dogs can be entered in categories
such as the smallest, the largest, longest or shortest tail, the
longest ears, the best dressed or the canine with the best
tricks. Judgeswill look carefully and evaluate all entries and
may even findnewcategories for prizes.
Cats will be judged beginning at about 9:45, looking for
the smallest, largest, the one with the longest hair and the
best dressed.
Judges will look at the most unusual pets from the small-
est to the largest, the most colorful and the most unusual at
10:15.
“We allow about an hour and a half for the show,” Cox
said, “but it spends on the number of entries. One year we
had a kid pick up a worm on the way in… .she still got a
prize. We award fist, second and third prizes, but really,
everybody gets a ribbon and is awinner,” he added.
